Lord Alton asked the witnesses whether we have sufficient capability and capacity in collecting intelligence in advance of threats to our national security. 40 years ago today we celebrated the end of the Falklands War – but it was a conflict which could have been avoided if our intelligence had been up to scratch.

For 18 years David Alton was a Member of the House of Commons and today he is an Independent Crossbench Life Peer in the UK House of Lords.
