Sir, Lord Grabiner KC and Michael Thomas KC criticise Lord Alton of Liverpool for raising concerns about foreign judges sitting for the Hong Kong courts (letters, Nov 21). Perhaps if, like me, they were unable to return home, or had close friends in prison for the “crime” of lighting candles to commemorate the Tiananmen Square massacre, they would think differently about foreign judges legitimising the persecution of the Chinese Communist Party.
