W ORLD UYGHUR CONGRESS

Dear L ord Alton,

I am writing to you on behalf of the World Uyghur Congress (WUC) to express our solidarity
with you i n l ight of China’s sanctions aimed at silencing those speaking up for Uyghur rights.

We are determined to continue standing firmly with you i n pursuit of our common goals to
bring out the truth of what i s happening i n the Uyghur region, and most of all to bring j ustice
to the victims of the Chinese government’s human rights atrocities.

Next to our continued resolve to support your work, I would also l ike to share with you our
sincere gratitude for your previous efforts to speak out on the Uyghur crisis and to amplify
Uyghur voices. While the majority of the world has chosen to witness the Chinese
government’s human rights atrocities i n silence, your words and actions give testimony to
those who have chosen not to l ook away but to advocate to uphold the universality and
indivisibility of human rights. For this, we cannot thank you enough.

For more than 25 years, I have been targeted by the Chinese government myself for my
advocacy on Uyghur human rights. Next to being placed on a sanctions l ist, Chinese
authorities have used every tactic at their disposal to threaten, harass, and i ntimidate me. As
a consequence of this, on several occasions I have been denied access to the United
Nations and other platforms.

That the Chinese government i s now extending i ts attempts to
silence criticism to democratically elected officials and parliamentarians, as well as
independent human rights committees and research organizations, shows that i t will stop at
nothing to undermine free and open public debate.

As such, i t i s my honour to stand shoulder to shoulder with you to bring the truth to l ight and
end the atrocities against the Uyghur people.

Yours sincerely,
Dolkun Isa
President
World Uyghur Congress
