New national lockdown? PM damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t. Locking down is like taking a sledge hammer to the economy and to people’s mental health – while the terrible failure to protect the most vulnerable has been a scandal.
There’s an old saying that when you are in a hole you should stop digging. The politicians and scientists don’t know the best way out of the hole which is why they should now stop digging, concentrate on looking after the vulnerable, leave local authorities to decide on what measures to take and when to lift them, and let people work out for themselves what is prudent and judicious to do and not to do.
