“I dedicate my whole life to your service.”Commemorating a life of Service – the death of Queen Elizabeth II

In June, as the nation celebrated the Platinum Jubilee, I wrote about the Queen’s life of public service:

From early memories as a primary school child, lining the pavement as she opened our local council’s new offices, to meeting her in the course of official duties as a parliamentarian, my abiding memory will always be of selfless devotion to the common good.

Whether in the course of her Queens Speech addresses to Parliament, her civic and constituency visits, or her overseas visits and role as Head of the Commonwealth, Queen Elizabeth unerringly put her belief in civic virtue and public duty into practice.

At the age of 21 Queen Elizabeth said ‘I dedicate my whole life to your service.’

In being every bit as good as her word she has been that rarest of people. She will be mourned with genuine and deep affection.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace
