Campaign for Nigeria’s Leah Sharibu taken to the Religious Freedom Summit in Washington DC – and backed by Meriam Ibraheem who was sentenced to death by a Sudanese Court after refusing to abandon her faith. She was forced to give birth shackled to the floor of her prison cell.

Meriam was eight months pregnant when she appeared before a court in Khartoum, Sudan’s capital city, on 15 May 2014 on charges of ‘apostasy’ and ‘adultery’.When she refused to renounce her Christian faith, the judges sentenced Meriam to death by hanging after she married a Christian man. She was forced to give birth shackled to the floor. David Alton was one of those who campaigned for her release.
Her story of courageous fortitude and endurance is told in her book, Shackled. Today she is campaigning for the release of Leah Sharibu abducted by Boko Haram in Nigeria
