Hong Kong 12 – Trial begins on December 28th of 10 of the 12. The International community, including the U.K., should carefully monitor the proceedings and protest against a process that is neither open or just.

Justice requires open and transparent proceedings. Show trials and kangaroo courts deny access to lawyers and families and are a mockery of justice. The rule of law is not the same as rule by law.

The Chinese Communist Party have announced that the trial of ten of the arrested Hong Kong 12 will commence on December 28th. The International community including the U.K. should carefully monitor the proceedings – which are likely to be held in secret.

The Hong Kong 12 – who include Portuguese, Vietnamese and U.K. passport holders – have been held incommunicado for 4 months and denied lawyers of their choice. Families have been barred from observing the proceedings .
