Marie Stopes called for eugenics to deal with the “hopelessly rotten and racially diseased” to be sterilised and wrote fiercely against interracial marriage. Now, following Black Lives Matter, her multi million pound business is to abbreviate its name to make it easier to get public money and to expand in Africa.

From Tuesday next Marie Stopes International is to change its name – in an attempt to disguise its identity and relationship with its founder – a leading advocate of eugenics with links to Hitler.

They hope it will enable them to more easily draw down public funds. By abbreviating their name they hope we will forget who “MS” was or what she stood for. The tragedy is that MSI will continue to end the lives of millions of babies in the womb.

Ironically, they say that they have been influenced by the Black Lives Matter Campaign to change their name. They should listen to what Dr.Alveda King (niece of Martin Luther King) has to say how abortion is the new civil rights struggle of the day:

Despite black Americans comprising 13.4% of the population, 36 % of abortions kill black babies. Here, too, abortion disproportionately affects poor/non-white unborn babies,   claiming more unborn lives among the poor/non-white than among the more comfortable classes.   Not for nothing did Martin Luther King’s niece Alveda describe abortion as ‘“without a doubt the most significant civil rights issue of our time.”’

Among her writings Stopes called for new laws that allowed the “hopelessly rotten and racially diseased” to be sterilised and wrote fiercely against interracial marriage. As the BBC reported: “On a darker note, she also corresponded with Adolf Hitler and believed in the creation of a super race.”

Marie Stopes protested against societies that “allow the diseased, the racially negligent, the careless, the feeble-minded, the very lowest and worst members of the community to produce innumerable tens of thousands  of warped and inferior infants.”

Her beliefs were echoed by Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood who insisted that

“…There is only one cure for poverty and ignorance, and that is to stop breeding these things. Stop bringing to birth children whose inheritance cannot be one of health or intelligence”

Three years ago I asked why Marie Stopes – a registered “charity “ – paid their Chief Executive more than £400,000 in one year – “more than three times the salary of the Prime Minister, who has to run the country” – and 22 others more than £100,000 and pointed out that “Among other things the Care Quality Commission criticised Marie Stopes – named for a woman who was a racist and a eugenicist – for dumping unborn babies in open bins. It’s time we followed the German example and completely separated the abortion industry from the provision of counselling and care, for both the unborn child and its mother.” And I criticised the way that aid money “that should be used to feed the starving and promote development is being syphoned off into abortion programmes.”

It’s not a change of name that’s needed but a change of heart — and not least, in a country where we abort a baby every 3 minutes.
