Lest We Forget

Westminster Abbey This Morning

Lest we Forget.

Early this morning on my way into Parliament I took this picture of a team who were lovingly placing thousands of commemorative crosses into the ground around Westminster Abbey – the fallen who gave us today’s freedoms and liberties which we must continue to defend with vigour. Just reading Robert Harris’s novel “V2”. 40,000 civilians – which brilliantly recalls those who died in the seven-month period between September 1940 and May 1941, almost half of them in London – and many in Liverpool – from aerial bombardment.

The parliamentary Research Unit has produced this excellent briefing note with tabled and charts detailing UK casualties and deaths from military combat during the World Wars
