With Andy Li During The Hong Kong Elections

In the U.K. Parliament I have again asked the U.K. Government what information they have on the wellbeing of the 12 young prodemocracy activists from Hong Kong, arrested by China. I asked whether the U.K. has asked China to allow access by family members and lawyers, and to press for the return of the 12 to Hong Kong.
In response, the Minister of State at the Foreign Office, Lord (Tariq) Ahmad @tariqahmadbt says that the U.K. has raised their case with the Chinese authorities.

Parliamentary Reply

Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon – We have raised our concerns about the 12 detainees in Shenzhen, which we understand includes Andy Li, with the Chinese authorities in Hong Kong. It is essential that due process is followed. The rights and freedoms of people in Hong Kong, including their rights to freedom of speech and assembly, are expressly guaranteed in the Joint Declaration. Rights committed to under the Joint Declaration must be upheld.

The world must not forget the Hong Kong 12 and keep asking democratic governments to speak up in their behalf.
