Professor the Baroness Finlay of Llandaff recently delivered a Roscoe Lecture titled ‘Cancer, compassion & care’ as part of the 2011 Roscoe Lecture Series: ‘Facing 21st Century Challenges’ at St George’s Hall, Liverpool.
Professor Finlay has published and lectured widely on palliative care and researched into aspects of caner palliative care. She remains an active clinician, teacher and academic as well as her involvement in Parliament.
Ilora Finlay is Professor of Palliative Medicine at Cardiff University. She was the first consultant in Palliative Medicine in Wales in 1987, set up the hospice there and has developed palliative and hospice services across Wales. She has worked with Marie Curie Cancer Care since 1987 and is now a National Vice President. Professor Finlay has been President at the Royal Society of Medicine and is President of the Chartered Society for Physiotherapy.
The Good Citizenship Award was presented to 14 year old Jack Haselden of St Thomas Boteler CE High School. Jack has successfully raised money for a Hospice, Highland House, in Inverness, Scotland.
The Republic of Korea’s Ambassador to the UK, His Excellency Mr Kyu Ho Choo, also attended the Lecture.
