Brazil
David Alton brought to the attention of the House of Commons the serious problem of the street killings of Brazilian children and the selling of other children into sex slavery.
Burma
David Alton has vigorously campaigned for human rights in Burma. After several appeals in the House of Lords, David successfully helped to release the pro-democracy activist James Mawdsley. James was arrested on 31 August 1999 for distributing anti-Government literature near Burma’s border with Thailand. He was given a 17-year jail sentence, but was released after 14 months in prison.
China
David Alton has criticised the repressive population controls of the Chinese government and its one-child policy.
The Democratic Republic of Congo
David Alton has raised awareness of the atrocities in Congo and campaigned to have the crimes against humanity raised at an international level.
Egypt
David Alton visited Egypt following the massacre in May 1992 of 13 Christians living in Daryut, a town in Upper Egypt. Following his return he raised the vulnerability of the Copts in Parliament, as well as writing several articles.
Indonesia and East Timor
David Alton has closely observed and questioned the sale of British military equipment to Indonesia. During the invasion and bombing of East Timor in 1998 and 1999, David argued in the House of Lords for an immediate just political solution.

David Alton has made several analyses of the political climate in Iran and its repercussions on human rights and social instability.
Iraq
David Alton has raised awareness of the suffering of the Kurds and the continuing plight of the Iraqi people.
Israel
David Alton has demanded explanations for the shelling of Beit Sahour.
Mozambique
David Alton pressed the British Government to rush medical aid and emergency facilities to refugee camps for thousands of sufferers and survivors of the catastrophic flood in Mozambique in 2000.
North Korea
